THE WORK I DID LAST WEEK EVERY DAY HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT BY PC CRASH

I am doing what I can to piece it all back together again
"Life after death? Well you might as well be prepared. "
Pic: " Highway to heaven:

"IT was American Billy Standley's wish to ride through the pearly gates on his Harley-Davidson.

"EXCITING news at the coffee shop. Kate (not her real name) as she puts it, expecting! Not only that but Ludlow had called off  its inspection and racing was going ahead.

"It meant we could later see novice chaser Buywise, having won easily off a handicap mark of 102, and easily off 120. After that, we could see hurdler Top Totti, having won easily off 114, fail to win but finish a worthy second off 130. Those handicappers! Albert Pierrepoint would have made a good one.
"Kate says that, so far, all that's arrived is morning sickness so I didn't like to ask what the arrangements will be for those of us who rely on her cheery service to accompany the day's first examination of the Racing Post, followed by the latest set of  obituaries. Sadly, William 'Bunny Rugs' Clarke will sing Try Jah Love no more.

"I don't know what the funeral arrangements are for 'Bunny Rugs' but Bill Stanley was buried the way he wanted to be buried, sitting in his beloved 1967 Electra Glide Harley-Davidson motorbike, wearing his black leathers and white helmet.

"Last Friday, family, friends and photographers looked on as Bill and his bike, in a large, transparent Plexiglas container, were lowered into the extra big plot Standley  had bought at Fairview Cemetery in Mutual, Ohio. Weird.

Standly, 82, may not have been expecting to roar off again  but William Bartels Wise of Murfreesboro, North Carolina, had even more ambitious plans when he was buried, in 1860, along with bhis horse, dog and sward. Wise wanted to be prepared in case he went down instead of up. His theory was that, if he found himself in hell, he'd send his dog to track the devil down, chase him on horseback then slay him with his sward. I can't help thinking it might not be as easy as that.

"About 2,300 years earlier, in Suffolk, an Anglo-Saxen warrior was also buried with his horse, its bridle, a sword and shield. They were discovered at RAF Lakenheath in 1997 and have recently been put on display at Mildenhall Museum, not far from Newmarket.

"It would be exaggerating to say the Lakenheath Warrior and William Wise have started a trend but, over the years, there have been several horses it would be satisfying to see buried alongside their trainers and/or jockeys, and not always because they'd done the same to my bets.

"Sometimes it would be in celebration of a famous partnership. Suggestions might be considered in rather poor taste but, looking back, Dorothy Paget could have been buried with Golden Miller, and Steve Donoghue  with Brown Jack. Unfortunately, it seems to be illegal nowadays, so that's another good idea foiled. The Lakenheath Warrior and William Wise were lucky that they and their horses, died when they did.

"Turning back to the living, I love the fact so many interesting things happen and thoughts are triggered during even an ordinary week's racing. Jockeys who rarely receive a mention catch your eye.

"Last Friday, Bert The Alert won a humble selling handicap at Lingfield thanks to a patient, nicely judged ride by Charlotte Jenner, a 7lb claiming apprentice' I hadn't noticed her before but she's ridden four winners from just 17 rides this year, and it will be interesting to see how she progresses.

"Robert Tart, claiming 3lb, rode another three winners since Saturday - but ewe already know he's good.  Less noticed, Trevor Whelan, a claiming conditional jockey, has progressed. He didn't need to shine to win on Saffron Wells at Market Rasen on Wednesday but he rode a good race and has improved. With 20 winners so far this season, he has already beaten last season's total of 15. He's worth watching.

"Then there's the already justifiable celebrated George Baker, the not-so-poor man's Richard Hughes. From Saturday to Thursday, Baker won on nine of his 20 mounts, including a four-timer at Kempton on Monday.

"Not only is Baker a joy to watch but he is also a thoughtful and articulate analyst of a race. When he retires, as well as gaining the weight to match his height, he could take up punditry on television, golf permitting.

"On the same day Baker rode four winners, Adrian Nicholls gave Be Perfect a fine front-running ride at Wolverhampton. It was very unusual  because the race was over two miles and trainer David Nicholls rarely has a stayer in his yard.

"Over the past five seasons (and  I bet you didn't know this), only two of Nicholls' 289 winners have been over a distance beyond a mile and a half. Be Perfect was one of the two.

"Oh, what a nuisance, I've  run out of space. "   OK no problem.

Peter Scargill Racing Post Friday January 10th 2014 Page 6.

British political and horseracing government bans reluctant
starter Mad Mouse over the next nine months.

This is a violation of this horses rights and needs. A violation of the owners rights, and needs. A violation of the trainers rights and needs. A disgusting bloodhorse illiterate punishment.   With a stench of dark age evil.

British political and horseracing government running British and Global horseracing  without a true up and running Equus Zone bans, reluctant starter Mad Moose.

"RACECOURSES in Britain will be a little less mad for at least the next nine months after the British political and horseracing government ruled it would not accept entries for frequent non-flyer Mad Moose.

"Trainer Nigel Twiston - Davies expressed dismay at the decision to prevent the ten-year-old from racing for an indefinite period, with the only shaft of light for connections being the British political and horseracing government will consider applications to race again after nine months.

"Yesterday's inquiry came after Mad Moose had been reluctant to start before pulling himself up before the first fence in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park last month - his seventh misdemeanour in the past 14 months - and the British political and horseracing government  said the ban was there to protect punters. ....

Now we are getting a little bit nearer to the truth

"But Twiston-Davies said:  "What's going to happen in nine months'  time that's any different to now?  He's been to (equine behaviour therapist.) Gary Witheford, has been hunted and went down to Lingfield and flew out of the stalls. "I said I'd never run him in a race in which other people would  get balloted out.  He's never got balloted out. He's never got in the way of any other horse. Punters know he's quirky, but he's one of the best horses in Britain.

"Twiston-Davies,  who defended Mad Moose over the phone after crashing his car on the way to the British political and horseracing government's headquarters in London, added: "We got a fair hearing and put our views across but the prosecutors wanted him banned. There are a lot of worse horses who should be banned before him. "

"Mad Moose can still run abroad but Witheford said he felt the decision to stop him running on the Flat in Britain was harsh.

"I'm surprised they banned him from Flat races, " he said. "We took him to Lingfield with some other horses and he was the fastest out of the stalls and stayed there all the way.

To protect punters?
"I could understand jumps, but he's shown plenty on the Flat and has less chance to misbehave in stalls compared to a flag start. "

Whose perspective?
" British political and horseracing government's spokesman  Robin Mounsey (bloodhorse illiterate) said: "His record since the first incident in October 2012 has featured a lengthy list of occasions where he's either refused or been reluctant to race. The verdict is designed to protect the punter from placing a bet on him and not getting a run for their money.
To protect punters?
Whose perspective?
"The disciplinary panel has suggested to Nigel Twiston-Davies that should he believe the horse has overcome his issues in nine months then they would be happy to consider an application  he be allowed to race again. "

COMMENT
Bruce Millington, editor  (bloodhorse illiterate)
"IT WAS fun for a while but then the joke started wearing thin. The mad career of Mad Mouse was brought to a halt yesterday when the British bloodhorse illiterate political and horseracing government disciplinary panel (bloodhorse illiterate) decided enough was enough. And, while his fan club won't like it, it was the right thing to do.  No no, no this was not the right thing to do at all.  This was a  (bloodhorse illiterate ruling) (for a bloodhorse literate problem)
"His 2013 record makes for bizarre reading, with second-place finishes behind horses as diverse as Sprinter Sacre and Mount Athos, a win in a Doncaster maiden and a refuse to play a meaningful part in his other six starts. Boring he was not.
"But by the time he had given his rivals a head start and then pulled himself up before the first fence in the Tingle Creek in December, the laughing and intrigue had stopped as the madness was replaced by mooseness.
"You cannot allow horses with a penchant for non-participation to play any part in the racing circus for two reasons. First, because punters who back such beasts find nothing remotely funny about failing to get a run for their money. And, second, because if a horse doesn't show an inclination to race there's no point forcing him to. "

EQUUS ZONE FACT NOT FICTION
ATHLETES BOTH THE TWO LEGGED VARIETY AND THE FOUR LEGGED VARIETY AS IS THE CASE WITH GLOBAL HORSERACING
It needs to be understood by the media and punters alike that with weather like this it can make it very difficult for both Jump Turf Trainer Teams and Flat Turf Trainer Teams to continue on preparing  their racehorses each and every day, of each and every week in order to be able to be fit enough to compete on race days. This  is not just a race day sport.

JENNY'S DEBT TO RACING
Page 13

Jones salutes IJF after Sochi success.
By Graham Green
"RACING can bask in Britain's first Winter Olympic medal on snow in the knowledge Oaksey House played a crucial role in Jenny Jones's triumph.

"After suffering concussion and balance problems in a training accident in November, the Bristol - based former chalet maid's place on the UK Olympic team for Sochi had been  in doubt before a series of visits to the Injured Jockey Fund's centre in Lambourn.

Jones collected bronze in the slopestyle snowboarding on Sunday, and afterwards phoned physiotherapy Emma Edward to thank her.

Jones was cheered on by staff and residents watching on television at Oaksey House.

"Practice manager Jayne Matthews said: "When we opened in 2009, planning restrictions  limited us to treating people from racing, but the restrictions have been relaxed, and we've been able to open our doors to the local population and sports people.

"EMMA is a specialist in vestibular rehabilitation and has particular skills in treating people with concussion, and Jenny had half a dozen sessions with her. "

"Matthews added "We treat footballers from Oxford United and Swindon Town, and injured rugby players . Their sports pay us to use our facilities  and it was the same with Jenny. The event rider Laura Collett was here last summer and we're working with some of the other eventers.

"I know Jenny spoke to Emma to thank her and we all followed her with great interest. I don't know where Jenny would have gone for help if she hadn't come to Oaksey House so we are all delighted that she won a medal for Britain. "

SEABISCUIT star Temple's racing link

"Former child acting star Shirley Temple, who died on Monday at the age of 85,  starred in Hollywood's first cinematic tribute to legendary racehorse SEABISCUIT writes Graham Green.
"The  1949 production of The Story Of Seabiscuit  was a fictionalised  account of his career with a romantic subplot involving Temple, who played trainer's niece Margaret O'Hara, and Lon McAllister in the role of jockey Ted Knowles.

GREAT ACTION AT KELSO

This afternoon

 KNOCKARA BEAU  - V -  LONG RUN

Knockara Beau one of David's favourite horses a truly brave, lovely horse. Finishes second
to Long Run yesterday beaten 6 lengths putting up a great challenge throughout at 9-4 second favourite. Long Run starting at 2-5 favourite. Racing Post ANALYSIS: "Nice prep for Long Run and Sam Waley-Cohen - Team Nicky Henderson.  Long Run with the cheek pieces back on instead of the visor, found this a  pleasant experience prep race, his last, before being asked to tackling the Aintree Grand National on Saturday 5th April.  A gruelling test for all competitors, make no mistake about that. This though proved an intriguing match that played out very much as expected, with Long Run's extra touch of class proving the difference later on. He heads now for the Grand National at Aintree.

Knockara Beau and Jan Faltejsek-Team George Charlton,  fresh off springing a massive shock (win 66-1) in the Cleeve Hurdle, and 17lb to find  with Long Run at these weights, and despite again giving it his all.  He'd be of definite interest in the Festival Handicap Chase, a race he unseated in last year, but it seems as though he'll head for the Gold Cup now. ( 6th two years ago.)
