Today's big talking point

Lee Mottershead on a crucial day for Nicky Henderson's challenge for the jump trainers' crown 2012-2013. What will the horses be showing us today? 
"LONG RUN has ground to make up and so does his trainer, but for both these are early days.
 
"It is all to easy to overplay the sense in which they are playing catch-up, but there is no doubt that for the sport's top chaser and the man whose desire is to be the sport's top trainer, what happens this afternoon is of great significance.

 

"Nicky Henderson will be at Ascot, where FINIAN'S RAINBOW (2.10) and OSCAR WHISKY, (2.45), two stars in a glittering Seven Barrows squad,  seek to remind us of their talent. When their races are done and dusted the most important race of the day will be staged, 200 miles north at Haydock Park, where LONG RUN (3.05) tackles the Betfair Chase  in the role so triumphantly adopted this day last year by KAUTO STAR. And as Kauto Star so memorably showed, they can indeed come back ......
